The Female Design Council is a professional network and advocacy organization for women in design, architecture and the applied arts. Members include architects, curators, interior designers, museum professionals, graphic designers, woodworkers, industrial designers, textile designers, sculptors, glassblowers, metalworkers, jewelry makers, design writers, ceramicists, educators, archivists, gallerists, publicists and hundreds of other professionals in the business of design. 

Job Description:

The Female Design Council (FDC) is seeking a part time, contract staff member supporting the membership and programming efforts, responsible for overseeing membership processing, tracking information and data, and managing current and prospective members of the FDC. In addition, the membership services manager takes an active role in scheduling, organizing and supporting ongoing digital and in person member programs of the FDC including FDC Showcases, Monthly Member Meetings, Professional Development Workshops and more. 

Commitment:

Approximately 15 - 20 hrs per week, contract and paid hourly at $35-$45/hour. IRL evening or daytime event attendance in New York/Brooklyn is expected no more than 1-2x per month. This role does not have a daily set schedule, however, requires a weekly staff meeting (over Zoom), daily check-ins (email, chat) on ongoing schedule and work load. This role is perfect for remote, flexible administrative work, but requires proactive communication around scheduling, task delegation and status, and availability. The FDC’s “busy periods” are March-April-May and October-November, with a slower cadence in January-February and summer. 

Requirements: 

The role requires a positive customer service orientation, with the ability to manage inquiries from members and prospective members in a timely, professional and friendly manner, and an ownership mindset of systems, databases, software programs, and in-person logistics.

Role requires strong administrative skills, including error-free email correspondence, tracking and updating spreadsheets of information accurately, presenting membership reports, managing Zoom webinars and learning and managing the FDC’s software (MembershipWorks). 

Knowledge, enthusiasm and previous experience within the art and design industry strongly preferred. This part-time role is excellent for an artist with a studio practice, a former gallery registrar or showroom manager, or a graduate student. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for updating member records and for the management and accuracy of the membership database management system, processing new members into the system at different tiers, and overseeing dues payments, alerts of expirations, and exiting members. Gather real time feedback from members about user-experience and flags any issues in real time. 

  • Functions as in-house expert on current membership metrics (how many members are current on dues, which members are expiring, geographic and industry spread, discipline and current status) and prepares reports on new and expired members 

  • Works closely with FDC leadership and marketing on active recruitment of future members and tracks recruitment efforts, including via testimonials campaigns, event outcomes, discount offers and brainstorming new prospects. 

  • Point of contact for all member inquiries and manages general email inbox (info@femaledesigncouncil.org

  • Ongoing communication directly with members regarding events, discounts, policies

  • Schedules monthly member meetings and professional development workshops over Zoom and acts as backend support staff during meetings. Must be familiar with the Zoom webinar system. 

  • Owns logistics for any in person events: manages door staff/check in, tracks RSVPs, point of contact for venue/host partner, set up/breakdown (with help). 

  • Manages scheduling, outreach and logistics for FDC Showcases, acts as in person tech support during presentations (approximately 3 per year)

  • Schedules, attends and takes notes at weekly staff meetings (Monday mornings, over Zoom) 

  • Works closely with FDC Marketing and Creative to feature members on social media and in newsletter and ensure member information is current and accurate. 

  • Manages FDC Mentor Match program, addressing potential mentee/mentor inquiries
